Terms of service
The short version: point links at honest destinations, pay for the plan you use, and your printed codes keep working — including after you stop paying us.

1. This agreement
These terms are a contract between you and Klip, a short link and QR code service operated from Nairobi, Kenya by Githu Kelvin. They apply when you create an account, use the API, or otherwise use the service. Our privacy policy forms part of them. If you are agreeing on behalf of a company, you confirm you may bind it.
2. What the service is
Klip issues short links and QR codes that point at a destination you choose, and lets you change that destination afterwards without reprinting anything. It records how often each code is scanned and reports that in aggregate. Which features are available on which plan is set out on our pricing page, which is generated from the same configuration the service enforces.
3. Your account
- You need a verified email address. We do not allow anonymous link creation, because open shorteners are abused within days and the cost of that abuse falls on every other customer's links.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your API keys secret. Treat a key like a password; if one leaks, revoke it in the dashboard.
- You must be 18 or older, and you must not be barred from receiving the service under applicable sanctions or export rules.
- One person or organisation per account. Do not resell access without a written agreement with us.
4. Your links and your content
Your destinations, your slugs, your uploaded logos and your data stay yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the service: to store that content, to serve redirects to it, to render QR images from it, and to produce your analytics. We do not use your links or your traffic to train anything, and we do not sell them.
You confirm you have the right to use what you upload — a logo you place on a QR code, most obviously — and that pointing a link at a destination does not infringe anyone's rights.
5. Acceptable use
You must not use Klip to create, point at, or distribute:
- Phishing — anything imitating a bank, a mobile-money service, a government body, an employer or any other party in order to obtain credentials, payments or personal data.
- Malware — files or pages that install or attempt to install unwanted software.
- Spam — bulk unsolicited messaging, whether by email, SMS or messaging app.
- Illegal content — in particular child sexual abuse material, which we report to the authorities without exception.
- Deceptive redirection — creating a link that passes review and re-pointing it afterwards at something that would not have. The ability to re-point is the product; using it as a bait-and-switch is a breach of these terms.
- Circumvention — evading rate limits, plan limits or abuse controls, including by creating multiple accounts.
You must also not attempt to disrupt the service, access another customer's data, or use the service in a way that puts our infrastructure providers' terms at risk.
6. How we enforce that
We may disable any link, immediately and without notice, if we reasonably believe it breaches section 5 — and we may suspend the account behind it. We do this because a single phishing link can get an entire domain blocklisted, which would put a browser warning in front of every code every other customer has printed. Acting fast is how we protect them.
Where a link is disabled in error, tell us and we will restore it. Where an account is suspended, we will say why unless a legal obligation prevents us. You can report abuse tohello@klipqr.com; include the full short link.
Your printed codes keep resolving whether or not you are paying us. Downgrade, cancel, or forget the password — the codes already on paper keep working. What lapsing costs you is analytics history, new links beyond the free allowance, and paid features. It never costs you the redirect.
We will not put an advertisement, an interstitial, a "you are being redirected" page or any tracking of our own between a scan and its destination, on any plan, including the free one. We also will not expire a free link for being old or unused.
This is in the contract and not only on the marketing site because we are aware it removes our most obvious commercial lever, and a promise that can be quietly withdrawn is not worth making. The exceptions are narrow and stated above: links that breach section 5, and links belonging to an account closed more than 30 days ago.
8. Plans and payment
- Prices are shown in Kenyan shillings on the pricing page. Any figure shown in another currency is indicative and converted at a rate that moves.
- Paid plans are prepaid for a fixed term. Mobile money has no card-on-file, so nothing renews automatically and nothing is charged without you initiating it. When a term ends the account returns to the free plan — see section 7 for what that does and does not affect.
- Prepaid terms are non-refundable once the term has begun, except where the law says otherwise or where we have failed to provide the service. If we get something badly wrong, write to us; we would rather refund than argue.
- Prices may change with 30 days' notice. A term you have already paid for is unaffected.
- Prices are exclusive of any taxes that apply to you. We are not currently registered for VAT; when that changes, invoices will show it.
9. Availability and changes
We aim for the redirect path to be continuously available and we treat an outage there as the most serious kind of failure, because the people affected are strangers holding phones in front of posters. We do not yet offer a contractual uptime guarantee, and we would rather say that than print a number we have not earned the operating history to stand behind.
We may change or discontinue features. If we remove something you rely on, or make a material change to these terms, we will give account holders reasonable notice by email first.
10. Disclaimers and liability
The service is provided "as is". We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we are not responsible for the destinations you point links at or for what happens on them.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, or lost revenue, and our total liability in any 12-month period is limited to what you paid us in that period. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
You agree to cover us against claims arising from your use of the service in breach of section 5.
11. Ending the agreement
You can close your account at any time from the dashboard. We can end this agreement on 30 days' notice, or immediately for a breach of section 5. On closure, dashboard access ends at once, your links keep resolving for 30 days, and after that they show a plain "turned off" page rather than an error. Section 7's commitment, the liability limits, and anything else that by its nature should survive, do.
12. Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction — without affecting any right you have to bring proceedings in your own country of residence where consumer law gives you that right.
